This web log is my notebook to keep, share and discuss notes about ants, ecology and science in a digital world. I work as a scientist at the State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe and the Philipps University Marburg/Department of Animal Ecology in Germany. This blog is a private activity and not reviewed or actively supported by any of the institutes. My research focuses on community ecology (with occasional excursions to taxonomy), especially as it pertains to ants. Read more about my research on Ants of Cachoeira Nature Reserve.
Trophallaxis is the exchange of alimentary liquid among colony members and guest organisms, either mutually or unilaterally. Through this process ants aquire information about one another's health and nutrition.
